Police Minister Bheki Cele wants the men involved in Wednesday night’s killing of a police station commander in Soweto arrested in 72 hours.
Initial investigations suggest that the station commander of Meadowlands police station, Brigadier Malefetsane Jonas Mofokeng who was confirmed dead in the hospital was accosted by an unknown number of suspects who shot him, police said.
“We’re satisfied with the progress that the police have made. We are working on the matter of 72 (hour) turn around. It’s not our job as the police to come and cry, our job is to give answers: who did it, why and how? So we are working on that for now, ” said Cele.
Cele wants strong action taken against those involved in police murders.
“Nobody should be able to kill a police officer and go and sleep at home peacefully. We have to hunt them, it doesn’t matter where we find them. If we need to find them alive it will be much better, if we need to find them dead it will have to happen,” he said.
“The call to the police is to just be more vigilant, do their work properly, protect one another but be able to respond and quickly so when they’re under trying times like this one. They must know they are forever targets of the criminals out there,” Cele said. ')}https://newsoweto.co.za/killing-police-officer-crime-nobody-kill-police-officer-sleep-home-peacefully-bheki/SA News
