Robert McBride of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) says investigator Cedrick Nkabinde and other police officials against him were told they would get high ranking positions if they compromised investigations.
McBride was in conversation with the POWER Drive host Thabiso Tema on Tuesday.
“In return for scarpering investigations they were offered high ranking jobs. Cedric Nkabinde was disgruntled about a female employee who was appointed for a post that was of a higher ranking than his.”
The Ipid head says Nkabinde submitted a grievance which is under investigation. The human resources told him that the grievance is against the system not an individual.
McBride served Nkabinde with a notice of suspension and has also opened a criminal case against him.
The Ipid investigator has accused McBride of unethical conduct and of going out of his way to discredit former acting police commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.
Ipid revealed before parliament on Monday that ten of the South African Police Services’ top cops are being probed, these include Phahlane.
McBride says the ten are being investigated for alleged corruption involving billions of rands.
Phahlane along with other co-accused suspects are expected appear before court on June 7. He is facing charges of corruption. Ipid is investigating how he could afford a multi-million rand home in the upmarket Sable Hills Waterfront Estate, outside Pretoria.
