Two men aged 48 and 30 were seriously injured after they were repeatedly stabbed during a robbery in Canelands – Verulam today (Sunday).

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa were in the area at approximately 10:24 searching for two suspects who robbed a fresh produce business in the Veruoam CBD when they were flagged down by bystanders requesting assistance for two Malawian nationals who were found bleeding excessively from their injuries.

RUSA Medics treated both men for multiple stab wounds to their backs and heads before transporting them to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It was established that the same suspects who were being sought for the business robbery attacked the two friends while making their getaway.

One of the suspects drew a pistol and forced the men to lie on the ground when his accomplice robbed them of their cellphones and cash.

The friends allegedly resisted when they were stabbed. The robbers then fled through an informal settlement.

Police are on scene and investigating further.
