SAPS have encouraged those with knowledge of the crime or its perpetrators to call Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or to SMS Crimeline on 32211 as they lift lid on the shocking events which lead the death of elderly couple.
Rugaya and Riedwaan Addinall were found murdered on Sunday afternoon when their son arrived at their home, concerned that he couldn’t get hold of them over the phone.
His worst fears were confirmed when he arrived at the property.
They were both 82 years of age.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed to IOL that an investigation is underway and a post-mortem will be carried out this week. However, some shocking details have already been made public:
- The couple were described as “frail” and “very quiet”, making their ordeal seem even more terrifying.
- Both Rugaya and Riedwaan are believed to have been strangled to death.
- Their bodies were found in a separate entry-way to the house.
- It’s been reported that “two killers” are responsible for this crime.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that many properties on the street have CCTV installed, where the Addinall’s home would be in shot of the cameras. Neighbours are ready to help the police investigation in any way they can. Those who knew the couple have been left in a state of shock, as they come to terms with an incredibly brutal crime:
When an elderly couple whom you know personally are found murdered in the home , you have reached your limit to the crime in Cape Town , why why why is nothing being done to these criminals ? There are no consequences, these criminals actually feel at home in prison , so sick
