Five people have died in two separate incidents on Cape Town roads in the early hours of this morning.

Four people died when a bakkie collided head-on with a car on the N-2, at Jakes Gerwel Drive, near Heideveld.

Traffic spokesperson, Richard Coleman, says the driver of the bakkie was driving in the wrong direction when the collision occurred.

Coleman says the driver, who only sustained slight injuries in the crash, was subsequently arrested by police for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol: “We had a light delivery vehicle that was travelling on the incorrect side of the N2 and collided with a Toyota Corolla.

In the Toyota Corolla we had three males and one female that was fatally injured in that accident.

The driver of the LDV had slight injuries and was arrested by SAPS.”

In a separate incident, the driver of a tow-truck, who was responding to the scene of a crash on the N2, died after he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll and crash into a house, also in Heideveld.

One other occupant was slightly injured.
