“Once freed, medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained burn wounds to his arms and showed no signs of life.
A teenager was found dead in a shop ceiling in Church Street in Pietermaritzburg on Monday morning.
According to ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring the boy is believed to be 17 years old.
“ER24 paramedics were called to the scene, arriving at 06h30, to find the SAPS Search and Rescue already in attendance.
“ER24 medics climbed into the ceiling and found the motionless boy lying inside the ceiling. Search and Rescue Services had to cut away part of the roof to gain access to the patient.
“Once freed, medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained burn wounds to his arms and showed no signs of life. Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead,” said Meiring.
He added that the details surrounding the incident where not known and SAPS were on scene investigating further.
